"The Family"

You're referred to as team (even at times as a "family"), but members of the group have serious reservations about being called a team, much less being considered part of a family

Quiet Members

In meetings, despite requests for involvement and input, most members remain quiet and the most candid discussion occurs outside of the formal meeting in much smaller groups.

Unclear Purpose

The purposes or objectives of the regularly scheduled meetings are not clear. Many participants resent attending the meetings, but not attending is politically unwise.

Factions / Pairing

Many smaller coalitions or factions exist within the group. Away from meetings, subgroup members accentuate the negative and make attributions regarding the motives and "hidden agendas" of other members.

Orientation

Because the purpose of the regularly scheduled meetings is unclear, meeting discussions lead to unclear outcomes that are subsequently uniquely interpreted by those in attendance.

Discussing Work Load

Some members resent that they are doing most of the team's work. Others are not pulling their weight. The topic is too difficult to raise. (Trust Building)

Favorites

One or two team members are clearly the leader's favorite(s), and a few feel their views are not "heard" or taken as seriously as the views or comments of others.

Defensive Routines

When people present in this group, they feel a need to defend their actions, so they guard carefully what is shared with the group. Reports or status updates become laundry lists of tasks finished, actions taken or things done.

Difficulty Being Authentic

Accomplishments and successes are shared, but problems or challenges are not mentioned. Help or advice on challenging problems is not sought because asking for assistance would be perceived as a clear sign of weakness. (Trust Building)

Irrelevant Competition

A great deal of informal one-on-one jockeying goes on among team members, and between team members and the leader. (Role Clarity)

Impaired Decision Making

Decisions are attempted, but not competed, members leave unclear about what was actually decided. Group Memory is missing. (Commitment)

Limited Psychic Income

Members are exhausted. They feel over worked and under-appreciated by the leader and each other. (Renewal)

Team In Name Only

Team Members talk about the Team, but don't feel team, don't act team. Everyone knows.

Road Kill

The talk is predictable. Only some members on the team talk, and usually to each other. There is a quiet faction, with knowledge and information, but they are uncomfortable raising issues, or not invited to speak. When they do speak they are run over by the "talkers."
